A Letter to my First Block Math Teacher

Written by Anika Chand

Dear Mr.Teacher,

You must accept my humble apology for handing in my homework late. It is actually a pretty small story, so at least hear me out before jumping to conclusions.  I’ve heard that I must take full responsibility for my work, but I believe that I am being plenty responsible when I say that this is all my sister’s fault.

So here is what happened: After coming home from school yesterday, I overheard my mom offering Claire, my younger sister, a prize if her grades went up ( the only reason my mom didn’t offer me was because my grades were already astounding).  A toy is actually worth a million gold nuggets in my sister’s eyes. She literally faints in most of the toy stores.  Even though my sister barely has an IQ, I’ve still got to admit, She’s still got a little brain up in her head, but the problem is, that her brain can work in mischievous ways.

The next morning, I woke up in the best mood ever.  Hoping that nothing would spoil my day, I brushed my teeth and got ready for another “exciting” day at school.  When it was almost time to leave, I realized that Claire wasn’t feeling so good.  While packing my bag, I asked Claire, “What happened?”  She looked up uneasily at me as I stuffed my lunch box into my bag. “ I … kinda... so I ….. Uhh”  Aarya’s hands quickly shot to her mouth and she raced to the bathroom.  Then, I knew that something was up. Here are a couple hints: My mom will believe anything, I can tell when someone’s lying, and my sister is a bad actress.

So, long story short, it turns out my sister forgot her homework at school, and thought that if she acted sick, got her hands on my homework, then handed in my, more advanced homework instead of her old one, then her teacher will not only give her full marks, but give her bonus marks also, then she’ll get higher grades and ( double bonus) get a prize from my mom, and a prize from her teacher from the treasure box. Yes, it was a needlessly complicated process, I am aware of that.

Once again I apologise for handing in my homework late.  I guarantee you 99% that this letter that I just wrote is the complete truth, and if I am looking nervous while handing this in to you, it is just because I’m eating brussel sprouts for dinner tonight, not because I lied about everything written in this letter.

                                                                                                                                                              From, Your very truthful student

P.S.  Don’t expect me to make up for my lost homework, keeping in mind that I never had anything to do with this.  Being forced to write this letter was bad enough.

P.P.S.  I couldn’t get this letter signed by either of my parents (like you asked me to) for a specific reason that I can’t tell you.  So what can be better than my signature?

(Note to me: don't forget to write my signature here: Enter signature)
