Time

Written by Saanvi Sundaram

Time
It is infinite
Endless

But, it’s not

No-
Time keeps running out
We chase after it, panting and heaving, but never slowing down
Because what will happen if time leaves us behind?
What will happen if we stop chasing the one thing that keeps us sane, keeps us alive?
That,
I do not know
I do know

Sometimes, time leaves us behind
But not really

No-
Sometimes, we are able to hold onto the time
Restraining it from flying away again

Time is impatient
It taps its foot constantly, irritating us to the point of insanity
It stares at us, while we grasp on to it like our lives depend on time not moving away
Because it does
Our life depends on it not running away
But no matter what we try
Time will always try to leave us behind

So, we hold on
We cling to the thin threads that try to escape our calloused hands
The hands dried and hardened from constantly tripping over our own feet
Falling to the dirt and soil that infiltrate our bodies and minds
But we dust it off

Not that the scar ever disappears

But honey,
Time spent with you is priceless
Time spent with you makes life feel happy again
So can we?
Can we spend time?
Watching the sunset from the cliff of the hill

And let the moments pass
Let the time leave us behind?
